When it comes to movies, anime, TV shows, and basically everything else related to visual entertainment (other than video games) our reviews are broken down into 5 distinct categories.
The first category is acting.
Here we are reviewing based on the believability of a character’s performance, as well as their ability to connect emotionally and artistically with the other actors on-screen. For instance, the movie “Precious” would get a 10/10. Each character displayed virtuosity on-screen. The performances were not only believable, but each character seemed to support each other, and the whole thing felt natural. A 0/10 would be Gigli, or maybe Dragonball Evolution.
The next category is story/writing.
Story/Writing relates not only to the quality of the tale that is told, but the method by which it is told. This relates to: dialogue, character relationships, build up of tension and its release, conclusive twist, and a host of other details that are involved with the storytelling process. Though Antonioni or Fellini would do extremely well in the other categories, they may not do so hot here. If a movie gets a 0 in the story category it doesn’t mean that it is a bad film; rather, it means that it lacked a story altogether, or that the story was not enjoyable. Movies that would receive a 10/10 would be Chinatown, or The Godfather, while movies that would receive a 0/10 would be Scary Movie, or that old classic: Dragonball Evolution.
Category #3 is visuals/sound.
The visuals/sound category pertains to the atmospheric elements of the story. Many of these elements are in a film’s production and post-production stages. Cinematography, audio mixing, sound production, and editing are all parts of this category. How did the movie look? How did it the aural aspects of the film enhance or retract from the overall production of the movie? Avatar would do well in this category for its obvious visual innovations, while Requiem For A Dream would also do extremely well in this category as it heavily relied on the visual and aural elements to enhance and tell their story. Movies that would not do so well in this category would be: Dragonball Evolution.
Next up is entertainment value.
This category really speaks to the pure entertainment aspects of a movie. Not that Total Recall wasn’t the greatest movie of time, it was, it just maybe wouldn’t get the best score for acting, or storytelling, or audio/visual. However, Total Recall would score 5 million for entertainment value because of its awesomivity and hilarity. Were we entertained by this movie? The Transporter may not be the best movie, but it is very entertaining due to the stunts and the various action sequences, so it would score highly here. Movies that would not score highly? Guess. Dragonball Evolution.
Lastly, the most important category: TheFeed Factor. This is our own brand of a review category. TheFeed Factor exemplifies a mediums ability to introduce you to new things. Here, and I hate to say it, Dragonball Evolution would do very well, because if you watch it you will be introduced to 3 amazing things. 1 of those is James Marsters, who played Piccolo in Dragonball Evolution. His claim to fame is the character Spike, from the TV show Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Not only can you be introduced to James Marsters as a result of watching Dragonball, but you will also be introduced to Buffy through your introduction to Marsters. The second amazing thing about Dragonball Evolution (DE from here on out), is Chow Yun Fat. One of our favorite actors here at TSF – Chow Yun Fat is a prolific actor having been in an uncountable number of movies across multiple continents. He has an amazing resume, and has worked alongside such directors as John Woo, Ang Lee, and Ringo Lam. This is one of those actors that will go into the history books. He really is incredible and even if it takes watching that horrendous pile of crap known as DE then, well it was worth it. The third thing that DE introduces you to is the whole Dragonball Franchise. Dragonball, Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT make up an essential anime franchise that is pervasive throughout so many cultures in the world. It is the anime that everybody knows, even the haters admit to liking Dragonball Z when they were kids. It is really a truly amazing franchise. They have card games, books, some stellar video games (Budokai 3 is hands down one of the best fighting games ever), and of late, DBZ has even been studied academically for its themes of heroism, triumph, and good vs. evil. Dragonball Evolution, though terrible, may be the first thing you ever see that relates to the Dragonball Franchise (I hope it’s not though).
Everytime you see a hyperlink in an article, we encourage you to click them. Most likely it will take you to a person or franchise’s Wikipedia page so that you can learn more about whatever it is that you clicked on. For argument’s sake we’ve put up a hyperlink over Chow Yun Fat’s name. Let’s say you click on Chow Yun Fat, it will take you to his Wiki so that you can learn where he is from, other movies he has been in, and other facts about him.
TheFeed Factor ties all aspects of media-entertainment together, and it is where you truly can learn about all the elements that make up the entertainment that our world is filled with. The videogame Devil May Cry 2 would also do well. Even though DMC 2 is an atrocity to gaming, DMC 1, 3, and 4 are really awesome. You are introduced to a great game-franchise, that also has action figures, a cool anime, and a great comic as well.
Everytime I go to a review website, I want to know what else this movie was like, or other games that I may like if I like this one. That is what TheFeed Factor is for.
Make sense?
If not please email us specific questions and we would be happy to explain this system further to you!
