I was exactly as you described above until I went to go see Stephan and the band live. 3eb was one of the first CD’s I bought with “my own money” (alongside EVE 6′s first album) and I used to listen to it as I fell asleep pretty much every night for at least a month. I know all the tunes and I can half-heartedly sing along to most of the songs. I just saw them live a couple weeks ago in Greensburg, PA and it changed the way I listened to their music. I had always hated Semi-Charmed life because I felt Narcolepsy was such a better song on the first album, when I heard it live I finally listened to the words of Semi-Charmed Life and it blew me away. If you don’t know pretty much every word to their songs it’s easy to miss some of the meaning. I am going back and memorizing each song now and falling in love again, not just with my favorites, but the ones I used to skip over too. That’s how good of a band they are.

I’m glad to see you enjoyed BECK so much, and loved your review. When I first saw BECK, it was a life-changing experience for me. It showed me what anime could be. What is so special about Mongolian Chop Squad is something that is hard to put into words, and can only really be understood by watching it through to the end.

I thought the game seemed to have a hit/miss appeal among gamers despite the critical reviews (and my own positive feelings about it). Like you mentioned, I wouldn’t say it’s a “video game” in the purest sense, and a lot of gamers who focus mainly on playing FPS and action-oriented titles didn’t seem to find it as interesting- exceptions aside.

I think it’s a great example of how video games are evolving and maturing as a media as the tools we have increase in quality. Personally, I don’t really watch TV at all; I go on news and weather websites for anything I would have gone to TV for before, and instead of watching a program, more often than not I would rather play a good game… and I think Heavy Rain is an amazing example of a title that could hang between these two categories.

It’ a shame that the price never seems to go down outside online sales.

I must say I was a little hesitant to like her stuff at first, but it’s really good. The songs will grow on you very fast.

I will definitely be paying close attention to her as her career continues.
